Simple Hummus

Image
Hummus or Houmous, as it's sometimes written, is a very tasty dip or spread that's eaten in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines. I first came across this food several years ago while I was working in an area that had a large Middle Eastern population. The ingredients are simple and the cooking procedure even more so. It remains as one of my go to foods for snacking and it is an excellent high-protein-meat alternative. Ingredients :  -200g cooked chickpeas -3 to 6 tablespoons of tahini -paprika powder -2 to 4 lemons -garlic -extra virgin olive oil -Liquid from soaking chickpeas -Salt to taste Cooking : As mentioned earlier, making hummus doesn't require much of actual cooking unless you bought dried chickpeas. The consistency of the end result can be adjusted to your liking and all one has to do is adjust the liquids accordingly. If you prefer a thicker spread then use less amounts of the liquid ingredients. If you like a more smoo...

Veggie Soup (Witch Soup)

This is another dish that I have my wife to thank for because this is something I would have never considered cooking, much less eating. "No meat? No thanks," as many typical Americans would say, with the majority of our meals being centered around meat. However, when you get older, health becomes more of a concern along with the addition of an expanding waist line. Whether you're looking to eat more veggies, or just trying to be more health concious, this is a remarkable dish that doesn't sacrifice taste. Ingredients : -3 tomatoes -1 large carrot -1 onion -1 brocolli -1/4 head of cabbage -1 bell pepper -2 or 3 celery stalks -4 cloves of garlic -2 green chili peppers -1 can of whole tomatoes -2 chicken stock cubes (or actual chicken stock) Preparation : The preparation is very simple and straightforward. Roughly chop all the vegetables into 1.5cm cubes. The chopping does not have to be very precise since all the veggies wi...

Ham Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Image
Growing up as a kid I never thought I would enjoy the taste and smell of cheese. But like any adult, my flavor palette began to slowly develop and now I can practically devour any kind of cheese. If you're trying to start your appreciation for cheese, then eating it while it's melted into foods are a great way to start. This is a simple grilled cheese sandwich that I've adapted to suit the taste bud's of an adult. A grilled cheese sandwich isn't something that should be eaten everyday. However, if you feel like treating yourself then it's food that will satisfy your soul. The simplest recipe requires only bread, butter and cheddar cheese, but you can put whatever your heart desires. This is my interpretation of what I think is a more wholesome grilled cheese sandwich. Ingredients : -2x Slices of any bread -Shredded cheddar cheese -14g of butter -2x Slices of ham -Cilantro Preparation : 1. Shred the cheese. 2. Rough chop the cilant...

The ultimate goal of this blog is to develop a weekly meal plan that I, or any potential reader, can follow without having to stress about what to have for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This will lead to more a more efficient grocery shopping experience as well. With that being said, here is a great soup called Beef Bourguignon. This is a French soup that involves beef being braised in red wine. It is a hearty soup that I've known about for quite a while now, but never had the chance to try to cook myself until recently. The list of following ingredients will comfortably serve 2 people, so you may adjust accordingly. Ingredients : -500g of Chuck Eye or Top Blade Steak -2x Carrots -2x Onions -3-5x Cloves of Garlic -2x Stalks of Celery -3x Bay Leaves...
